The Hardware Catalyst Initiative MedTech Lab is a state-of-the-art facility that focuses on developing microelectronic hardware devices for medical applications. It was developed in partnership with Sterling Industries, which specializes in advanced medical device manufacturing.
The HCI MedTech Lab is hosted within Sterling Industries' manufacturing facility in Vaughan — dedicated to medical device production — giving our companies unparalleled exposure to MedTech manufacturing expertise. They're not just working in a lab; they're inside one of Canada’s most prolific medical device production facilities. Sterling Industries’ experts share their insights into developing and marketing successful solutions. This unique ecosystem enables the development of made-in-Ontario MedTech solutions while helping domestic companies to commercialize, grow, and scale their businesses for global markets.

As part of the Hardware Catalyst Initiative, founders gain exclusive access to ventureLAB’s $11M Labs: MedTech Lab, Hardware Lab, and Data Center.
Within the Hardware Catalyst Initiative- a two-year program for startups developing novel hardware products, there is dedicated support for companies developing microelectronic hardware devices for medical, biological, agricultural or chemical applications in the form of lab access, partner introductions, subject-specific workshops, tailored advisory sessions, and investment readiness preparation, to help decrease barriers to commercialization and catalyze their time to market.
The Hardware Catalyst Initiative is a 24-month program for founders developing novel semiconductor, sensor, silicon-based IP or embedded system hardware solutions.
MedTech is a term used to describe technology with applications in health and life sciences as it relates to medical products and devices.
Digital Health is a specialized ‘stream’ in which companies are working on software-focused tech solutions that support healthcare delivery and management.
In addition to our tailored programming stream in the Hardware Catalyst Initiative, the Accelerated Growth Program, partnerships and our lab facilities, ventureLAB has a team of dedicated advisors with expertise across necessary domains including: clinical, compliance, regulatory, hardware development, product management, business development, investment readiness, and marketing.
